"Dr. Spock's Baby Book on Carpet" Shadow box "Over the Line: A Tribute to the Films of the Cohen Brothers" art show Ltd. Art Gallery June 2013 With this piece I really wanted to bring the viewer into the film. I used actual items to construct this box, with an authentic copy of Dr. Spock's baby book. Throughout the film Raising Arizona, this book is beaten and stolen and painted and burned and keeps returning as a running joke. I wanted to bring these scenes to life, especially the motor home fight scene when cheese puffs and cigarettes went flying. The scene in which the book is on the floor(like my shadow box) is actually before the book gets turned blue, but I felt the blue paint was too important to the film to leave out. If you read the paper, only Arizona phone numbers were used as well as an "Unpainted Arizona" ad to really bring the Cohen bros. characters alive.
